Today one of my friends sent me a link to the thread on the Blizzard Forum, where the topic starter tells us about the fact that Blizzard stopped selling games and other content to russian citizens and locked all access to paid content, even allready purchased.
The topic starter demands that Blizzard refund his money spent on buying the games and all the other locked or restricted content.
Of course I already knew about this. Of course these news have made me launching to the earth orbit with the bursts of flames from my ass.
But, oddly enough, that’s not what we are talking about right now.
Btw, you can read this topic here:
http://nah.uy/blizzard
I have shortened the URL so it looks nicer and reflects how I feel about the company.
Translation note: in russian "nah.uy" looks very similar to "nahuy" or "na huy" which means something like "to hell" or literally "to the dick". So "na huy blizzard" can be translated like "hell with blizzard" or "blizzard goes to the dick".
But now I want to talk about that some people naively think that such restrictions will lower companies’ karma, destroy their reputation and so companies will loose clients and profit.
So, maybe with banking systems such logic could work, because everyone wants his/her money to be saved in safe place and do not get lost due to some political conflict.
But in the field of intertainment most likely nobody cares about such things.
If you love some game or a software you will play or use it whatever the developer supports the enemies of your country. The only thing maters: you will not like seeing annoying political ads or restrictions.
Many russians still use services that are blocked for us: spotify, youtube premium, netflix, HBO.
Many of my friends use any workarounds to buy a new game or some intertainment content. They use illegal ways, pay extra money to brokers and illegal sellers. Everything just to buy a subscription for WoW or a new game or service.
I am sure that ukrainians even play russian games, for example recently released Atomic Heart. Of course they cannot pay for it, but they still use pirated version despites the fact that the game is in russian and is developed by russian people.
And of course russian people still love and play ukrainian game "Stalker", of course pirated too, because we cannot pay for it.
We didn’t stop using Notepad plus plus despites the big "stand for ukraine" banner on their website.
OpenAI blocks the registration and login for russian accounts but we still use it with VPN and foreign credit cards.
Even ukrainian people continue to use russian VK and Yandex despites the tonn of restrictions from both sides.
And these are just a few examples.
Of course an average man from USA, Germany or Canada will not stop buying new IPhones just because he knows that Apple deleted some russian apps and blocked Apple Pay in Russia.
An average man from Europe or USA even does not know about those sanctions. Or if knows than puts a very big dick on all of this (It was a russian idiom but I hope you’ve got what i mean).
And even if we, russian people, scream about those things, write in chats, blogs, spread the information on forums… This information will be lost between truth and lie, propaganda and true news. Nobody will filter and analyze every piece of information to find the truth. It is easier to ignore, forget and live in your own beautiful world, hoping that this shit never happens to you.
Of course I don’t tell that we should close our mouths and stay silent. Sharing your opinion is always cool. And sharing your opinion around the all internet is even more cool.
But believing that some restrictions or lockages will destroy Apple’s, Google’s or Blizzard’s karma and reputation is very naive.
Although, believe you or not nothing changes, so believe if it makes you more comfortable and happy.
Translation disclaimer: sorry for my english! Any constructive critics about the gramar is appreciated.
